Graduation requirements checklist

If you are graduating this term, you must make certain that you are following all of the Graduate School’s designated deadlines.  In addition, there are departmental requirements that you will need to complete.  Please see the list below.

Master of Science Students

YOU MUST BE REGISTERED IN THE TERM YOU INTEND TO GRADUATE.

  1. Apply for graduation.
  2. Complete the Approved Program Form
  3. Complete the Nomination of Thesis or Dissertation Committee Form.
  4. Complete the Certification of Masters without Thesis Form (for non-thesis M.S. degrees, including Ph.D. students receiving an M.S. along the way)
  5. A week prior to your final thesis defense, please provide us with  the title, abstract, day, time, location, and committee members, so that we can announce your defense to the public.
  6. Student must ensure that each committee member fill out the Defense Assessment Form. (you’ll get this from the Graduate Office)
      1. Please note, this form is referred to as the Middle States Form. It is required for accreditation purposes.
      2.  Please note, this must be completed during your defense.
  1. Once you have satisfactory defended your FINAL Thesis/Dissertation, we will need to provide us the following:
    1. Your Completed Nomination of Thesis or Dissertation Committee Form. If you have not done so already.
      1.  Please note, this should have been completed at the time of your proposal defense.
      2. Inform the Graduate Office if your Committee has changed from when you originally established your committee. If so, you must complete a new Nomination of Thesis or Dissertation Form.
    2. A completed Report of Examining Committee Form (with all signatures)
      1. You can get this from the ME Graduate Office or the Office of the Registrar when/if the Nomination of Thesis or Dissertation committee form is approved.
    3. Submit a final copy of your Thesis/Dissertation via ETD System and Electronic Publication Form  and provide a copy to Tameka Boggs (via pdf) before the University’s deadline (please refer to this link for the deadlines).

          2. Submit and electronic version of your Thesis/Dissertation via email to the graduate Office (Kerri Poppler James kjames3@umd.edu or Tameka Boggs (tboggs@umd.edu)
        3. If you would like to have your Thesis/Dissertation professional bound, we have used this company in the past:

      1. A completed DEPARTMENT EXIT PLAN.
    1. {For International Students only} Completed the ISSS Exit Plan Must be completed at the beginning of their final term. Also be sure that your I-20 does NOT expire before your final dissertation submittal. ALSO, you MUST be assured that you are definitely graduating. If not you may run into major problems).
      1. Upload and Submit the ISSS Exit plan through the following link

Provide the Graduate Office with a jpeg or pdf PHOTO of yourself. It is recommended that the photo be professional in scope.

  1. Provide to us via email a pdf of you entire
  2. Verify your graduation candidate application status.

Mechanical Engineering M.S. Students

Reliability Engineering M.S. Students

*In addition to coursework, all M.S. students must complete a minimum of 6 credits of Master’s Thesis Research (ENME 799 or ENRE 799) over the course of the M.S. program.

 

Ph.D. Students
