ACS is a College of Engineering initiative and community of scholars focused on advancing the science and engineering of autonomy, robotics, and the internet of things (IoT). The successful candidate must hold a Ph.D. degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline and demonstrate excellent potential to build an independent research program at the forefront of their field, as well as potential to educate and mentor students. The successful candidate will conduct original research, advise graduate students, teach undergraduate and graduate level courses, and perform service both at the School and University levels.
Programs in the School of Mechanical Engineering are consistently ranked among the best in the nation. The School is one of the largest at Purdue University, and in the nation, with 1300 undergraduates, 650 graduate students, 79 faculty, and 65 staff. The School is home of the Herrick, Zucrow and Maha research laboratories with significant infrastructure and a long tradition of collaboration with industry, national laboratories, and other universities. Mechanical Engineering faculty members also carry out a significant portion of research at the Birck Nanotechnology Center. The Bechtel Innovation Design Center and Maker Spaces provide hands-on experiences together with an entrepreneurship ecosystem through the Purdue Foundry and Discovery Park.
