Propulsion Research Engineer – Jacobs Technology Inc.

Description

Jacobs Technology Inc., located at Edwards Air Force Base, CA, is looking for a Propulsion Research Engineer.  The job will involve the development of a fundamental research program that will incorporate both experimental and computational work. The Air Force would like to investigate failures at interfaces between materials and the possibility of predicting failure using cohesive zone modeling. The job will involve incorporating new cohesive zone models into finite element software, possibly using user defined functions. In addition, the job will involve gathering requisite experimental data using digital image correlation. Organizing the research, solving technical challenges, and analyzing and interpreting the results with minimal supervision are all part of the job.

Qualifications

A PhD in an engineering or science field is strongly desired.

Experience in solid mechanics, especially experimental mechanics and finite element modeling, would be very useful. Programming experience with high level languages is helpful (e.g., Python, C, FORTRAN) but could be learned on the job. Most important is the ability to analyze, interpret, and draw conclusions from data with minimal supervision.

Additional Desirable Experience: Finite element analysis (especially ABAQUS), and computer programming skills (FORTRAN and/or Python and/or C).

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Must be a U.S. Citizen and be able to pass a background check.

Unusual or Special Physical Requirements of Position – lifting, climbing and crawling
