TITLE OF THE RESEARCH
Risk and resilience of systems and infrastructures vulnerable to natural hazards and climate change
DESCRIPTION OF THE RESEARCH
The aim is developing a simulation framework that integrates artificial intelligence methods for a computationally efficient analysis of the risk and the resilience of complex systems and critical infrastructures vulnerable to natural hazards, such as earthquakes, tsunamis and/or floods. The impact of these phenomena is worsened by climate change, because they can trigger large scale accidental scenarios (Natech, Natural-hazard triggered Technological accidents) with severe consequences on population, environment and economy. In this context, the activity consists in developing advanced methods s that can capture in a computationally efficient manner the dynamics and the uncertainties that characterize the Natech scenarios.
RESEARCH SCIENTIFIC SUPERVISOR Prof. Enrico Zio
PRESUMED DATE FOR STARTING ACTIVITIES: 01/06/2020
ACTIVITIES THAT THE TEMPORARY RESEARCH WILL CARRY OUT
The research activities will be carried out within collaborative projects with national/international industries, research centers and universities. The research team will be formed by two professors, the research fellow and some phd and master thesis students. Periodic discussion meetings will be held to discuss about the research advancements. The development of the program will take place at Lasar (Laboratory of Analysis of Signals and Analysis of Risks, www.lasar.polimi.it) of the Department of Energy, Politecnico di Milano, in Milano Bovisa campus. At least 30 days before the end of the contract, the research fellow must present a written report on the research activities carried out and on the results achieved within the scope of the project.
