NASA Postdoctoral Program

The NASA Postdoctoral Program offers US and international scientists the opportunity to advance their research while contributing to NASA’s scientific goals.  The NPP supports fundamental science; explores the undiscovered; promotes intellectual growth; and encourages scientific connections.

Selected by a competitive peer-review process, NPP Fellows complete one- to three-year Fellowship appointments that advance NASA’s missions in earth science, heliophysics, planetary science, astrophysics, space bioscience, aeronautics and engineering, human exploration and space operations, and astrobiology.

Applicants must have a Ph.D. or equivalent degree in hand before beginning the fellowship, but may apply while completing the degree requirements. U.S. citizens, Lawful Permanent Residents, and foreign nationals eligible for J-1 status as a Research Scholar may apply.

Stipends start at $60,000 per year, with supplements for high cost-of-living areas and for certain academic specialties. Financial assistance is available for relocation and health insurance, and $10,000 per year is provided for professional travel.

Applications are accepted three times each year: March 1, July 1, and November 1.

With the support of an assigned mentor, participants have authentic research experiences using equipment not found on most college campuses. These research experiences compliment the educational nature of the programs and make participants aware of potential STEM employment opportunities at the sponsoring agency. Lawrence Postdoctoral Fellowship

We would like you to encourage you all to apply for the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory’s (LLNL) Lawrence Fellowship. The fellowship was established to provide extraordinary postdocs an opportunity to pursue independent, ground-breaking research in a National Lab setting. The Laboratory is committed to making their experience at LLNL positive and rewarding.

This three-year fellowship is awarded to your rising graduate students with uncommon talent, credentials, scientific track records, and potential for significant achievements. Typically, two to four awards are given each year. Fellows will propose creative and independent research in one or more aspects of science relevant to LLNL’s mission. Research areas may include:

Schmidt Ocean Institute – 2020 Science Communications Internship

The Science Communications Internship aims to provide educational and practical support to graduate students studying marine science, communications, journalism, or a related field. Interns will work with our Communications team supporting outreach programs, with the goal of engaging, influencing, and generating public support for a healthy ocean through advanced scientific research, technology innovation, and open sharing of information. The intern will assist with a variety of strategic communications tasks and initiatives, contributing content to Schmidt Ocean Institute’s digital channels and interactive programs.

Location: Remote – Must operate in Pacific US Time Zone hours

Internship Summary:The Science Communications Internship aims to provide educational and practical support to graduate students studying marine science, communications, journalism or related fields. Interns will work with our Communications Team supporting outreach programs, with the goal of engaging, influencing, and generating public support for a healthy ocean through advanced scientific research, technology innovation, and open sharing of information. The intern will assist with a variety of strategic communications tasks and initiatives, contributing content to Schmidt Ocean Institute’s digital channels and interactive programs. This is a paid internship position. The timeframe for internship is Sept-Dec 2020, with possible renewal for spring and summer 2021.

Responsibilities: Participants selected to support the Science Communications Internship will assist, develop and support the following:

  • Assist with the development and upkeep of research cruise web pages, blogs, and archives, as well as real time and interactive content on the organization’s web site
  • Assist with outreach activities and messaging for Schmidt Ocean Institute and research vessel Falkor with staff and multimedia correspondents
  • Assist with visual content editing, organization, labeling and storage
  • Assist with various communications projects, school and community outreach activities
  • Assist with social media posts via Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, and Twitter

Requirements:

  • Must currently be enrolled as a Graduate Student, majoring in marine science, communications, journalism or related fields
  • Must be able to commit to 15 hours of work a week
  • Previous experience and/or coursework in marine science, communications, journalism, or related fields
  • Interest in oceanography, technology, and ocean exploration
  • Ability to learn new software
  • Fluent in spoken and written English
  • Must be eligible to work in the United States
  • Applicant must be at least 18 years of age

Preferred Skills: 

  • Demonstrated writing capabilities
  • Knowledge and experience with Adobe Creative Suite applications
  • Knowledge and experience with Google Apps / G Suite
  • Knowledge and experience with WordPress, or web design
  • Time management skills
  • The ability to work with a team, as well as alone (sometimes with minimal guidance)

Fulbright Israel – Postdoctoral Fellowships

Applications for the 2021-2022 year close on September 15, 2020.

Israeli universities are known for their high level of research in many fields. According to US News & World Report, seven of Israel’s universities rank among the world’s top 100 in a variety of disciplines. Israel is also home to one of the world’s most active tech ecosystems; revolutionary achievements in agricultural and medical research; and studies in diplomacy and international relations.

The Fulbright Israel commission will grant up to eight
postdoctoral fellowships to outstanding scholars who
are planning to begin a program of research during the
2021/22 – 2022/23 academic years at an accredited
university or non-profit research institution in Israel.
This program is open to researchers in all fields of
study.
Fellowship benefits include:

  • $47,500 per academic year

MBI Educational Foundation Scholarship

The Modular Building Institute is providing financial assisting to students in need of funds through their two scholarship programs created for the current year 2020. The awards will act as a great help for the beneficiaries to overcome their economic hurdles and achieve success.

The program is open for the applicants attending or planning to attend a college, university, or higher education. The mechanical engineering student that demonstrates a continued understanding of how heating and air conditioning product are also invited to apply for the Maury Tiernan Scholarship

The Modular Building Institute is the international non-profit trade association serving modular construction founded in 1983. Its members are manufacturers, contractors, and dealers in two distinct segments of the industry. It strives to keep up with the latest trends of the modular/offsite construction industry.

Who May Be Eligible?

Below are some necessary requirements from both of the scholarship program:

  • Any course of study is eligible as it does not have to be related to construction.
  • Applicants must have at least a 3.0 high school or college grade point average,
  • Must be able to submit copies of school transcripts, submit at least one letter of recommendation, and submit a personal statement.
  • Applicants to any school may apply for the Maury Tiernan Scholarship
  • Must be pursuing a degree directly related to mechanical engineering.
  • Verification that students are pursuing a mechanical engineering degree is required, for example, by providing copies of college applications.
  • Applicants should demonstrate with a written essay their understanding of mechanical engineering and modular construction. This online application will be used to determine eligibility as well as select a winning student

Rules

  • Participate in a tour given by an HVAC manufacturer or supplier of a modular building factory.
  • Participate in a client meeting with a modular building dealer or contractor.
  • Create a detailed HVAC plan for a modular building.

Benefits

The MBI Foundation will provide one $2,500 scholarship and the Canadian Foundation provides one $2,500 scholarship. Maury Tiernan will contribute $10,000 towards the education of a deserving student pursuing a mechanical engineering degree. The recipient will get sufficient help to continue or complete their further studies with the help of the grant.

Application Deadline

The applications should be submitted by the deadline of August 15 annually.

Eligibility

U.S. Citizens – Master’s and PhD students. Note that PhD students should be at or approaching candidacy and can apply up to the time of graduation (to use as a post-doc) but not after. The program also welcomes applications from recent graduates with a master’s degree. This is an opportunity for alumni to turn knowledge gained through professional experience into exciting international research projects. This can be a great step toward PhD level study or for transitioning to a new career phase.

Benefits

Round-trip transportation, living costs for the academic year, based on living costs in the host country, and supplemental health and accident insurance. Depending on the country, you may also receive modest funds for dependent support, book and research allowances, tuition, and language or orientation courses.

To be eligible, you must be studying within the Renewable Energy field and have at least a 3.0 GPA. Must also be currently enrolled as a rising sophomore (junior or senior for 2+ year programs), or a graduate student. Additionally, this scholarship is open to those enrolled in specific technical certification programs.

2020 LRGF Applications Due March 4, 2020

​The LRGF is unique in that it requires, as an integrated part of the program, the student to participate in, at least two, 12-week residencies in one of the national labs with the intent of increasing the students understanding of, and exposure to, the programs and work environment of the Labs.  Fellows are encouraged to plan their PhD research either at, or closely integrated with, on-going lab efforts – but the two residencies are a firm requirement.  Applications are now being accepted for Laboratory Residency Graduate Fellowship (DOE NNSA LRGF).   Below is an online resource that describes the DOE NNSA LRGF opportunity and benefits, and the application process.
