Washington State University – MULTIPLE TENURED / TENURE-TRACK FACULTY POSITIONS IN MECHANICAL ENGINEERING

Candidates with research interests in all areas of Mechanical Engineering will be considered, but
priority will be given to candidates whose research interests align with the priorities of the School,
specifically: Robotics/Machine learning and Manufacturing/Design. The specific areas of interest
include, but are not limited to: automation and control in next-generation manufacturing
technologies, machine learning in measurement and control, agricultural robotics, design for additive
manufacturing, micro/nano-manufacturing or a related area of advanced manufacturing

REQUIREMENTS: Applicants must have a Ph.D. in mechanical engineering or a related field,
excellent communication skills, and a demonstrated commitment to collaborate with internal and
external groups to build successful interdisciplinary teams with substantial externally-funded
research portfolios. Successful applicants will be expected to play leadership roles in the respective
areas, and be effective instructors for undergraduate and graduate classes in mechanical engineering.
Candidates at the full Professor level must possess superior leadership skills and experience
applicable to leading large research programs.

Worcester Polytechnic Institute – Tenure-Track Faculty Position Mechanical Engineering

New Mexico Tech – Assistant Professor Mechanical Engineering

Position Description: The Department of Mechanical Engineering at the New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology (New Mexico Tech) invites applications for two tenure-track Assistant Professor of Mechanical Engineering positions, beginning August 2020. The Mechanical Engineering Department at Bucknell University seeks outstanding applicants for
an open-rank, tenure-track faculty position starting in August 2020. We seek candidates who show
promise for excellence in both teaching and scholarship, and possess research expertise in robotics,
mechatronics, electromechanical systems, or a closely related technical area in mechanical
engineering.


The Department offers B.S. and M.S. degree programs in mechanical engineering. Candidates are
required to have an earned doctorate in mechanical engineering or a closely related field at the

Northern Kentucky University -Tenure Track Assistant Professor – Engineering Technology – Two Positions

 Position The Department of Physics, Geology, and Engineering Technology invites applications for two tenure-track assistant professor positions in an ETACABET accredited program beginning August 1, 2020. We will consider candidates who have achieved ABD status.

The new positions support the implementation of our new Mechatronics Engineering Technology program; this program aims to close the competency gaps identified in our regional workforce. PEC is globally recognized as an industry pioneer in the areas of applied research, advanced modeling and simulation, assessment and testing for the protection of people, systems, and infrastructure against natural and man-made hazards, extreme accident scenarios, and deliberate attacks. We perform high-fidelity physics-based modeling; design and evaluate novel protective devices, oversee material-level and full-scale physical testing; and, develop fast-running models using data analysis techniques (machine learning, genetic programming, etc). We perform this work for military and civilian clients. We are looking for a creative and motivated modeling and simulation engineer/scientist, who can support our advanced technology and applied research projects. The candidate must have experience (academic or work-related) in applying and/or developing state-of-the-art numerical modeling tools, for solid dynamics and fluid dynamics applications. Experience modeling extreme loads and highly nonlinear material response is preferred and course work in structural dynamics, numerical analysis, and computational modeling is expected. The successful candidate will have capabilities in one or more of the following areas: nonlinear dynamic analysis using LS-DYNA, CTH, ABAQUS, ANSYS, ALE3D, EPIC, DYSMAS, or other first-principles high-fidelity, physics-based codes; laboratory testing; and programming in Python or other scientific languages. Familiarity with and application of data analytic techniques and open-source software is a plus. We will provide opportunities and encouragement for professional development in technical, marketing, and management areas, depending upon individual interest.

USACM – Postdoctoral Position on Modeling the Fracture Mechanics of Antarctic Ice Shelves

Position Responsibilities: The Computational Mechanics and Physics Laboratory at Vanderbilt University is seeking a postdoctoral researcher interested in the area of ice sheet modeling and fracture mechanics. The specific research project is described below: 

Fracture Mechanics of Antarctic Ice Shelves and Glaciers: This project aims to provide fundamental understanding of iceberg calving by advancing the frontiers in nonlinear continuum mechanics and computational fracture mechanics, and translating it to glaciology. The project aims to develop a fracture-physics based scheme to better represent iceberg calving in the community ice sheet model. The effort will also address research questions related to calving behavior of floating ice shelves and glaciers, and the role of hydrofracture and ice cliff failure in ice sheet mass loss in the future. The overarching goal is to enable more reliable prediction of calving fronts in whole-Antarctic ice-sheet simulations in the Community Ice Sheet Model (CISM) over decadal- to-millennial time scales. Qualifications: Applicants should have a Ph. D. degree in Civil/Mechanical/Computational Engineering, Engineering Mechanics, Applied Physics or Mathematics, Earth and Environmental Sciences, or a relevant field. The ideal candidate will have a background in nonlinear continuum mechanics, fracture mechanics and finite element methods. Essential requirements are strong quantitative, verbal and analytical skills, solid knowledge and experience in scientific programming (with Python or C/C++ or Fortran ), expertise with either FEniCS or Elmer Ice software, and the ability to learn and employ new numerical methods and technologies from different disciplines. Previous research experience in the field of computational modeling and a record of publications in reputed international journals is required.
