Visit Minnesota, learn about graduate programs in Science an Engineering

University of Minnesota is hosting a “Graduate school opportunities showcase” on October 23rd and 24th. The event is open to science and engineering majors, and /day two (October 24th) will feature a focus on Mechanical Engineering. More information on the event can be found in the attached flyer that includes a link to the student application form. A significant number of scholarships will be available to offset lodging and travel costs for those that are interested in day 2 of the event. *

Registration now open: 2023 Student Space Congress

On November 8-9, 2023, NewSpace Chicago will be hosting a virtual Student Space Congress through the platform Remo. We invite students and groups of students to submit their space related work for presentation at the Student Space Congress. There will be an opportunity to compete for a $500 scholarship and the work can be in any discipline so long as it relates to space.

NextProf Nexus 2023: Applications Open

On August 28-31, 2023, Georgia Tech, the University of Michigan, and University of California, Berkeley will co-host the 2023 NextProf Nexus future faculty workshop on Georgia Tech’s campus.

This program aims to diversify the engineering professoriate by bringing together 60+ senior-level Ph.D. students, postdocs, and early career scientists and researchers from across the country for an intensive 3-day workshop about becoming a faculty member.

The 2023 NextProf Nexus future faculty workshop is designed to encourage people in traditionally underrepresented U.S. demographic groups to seek academic careers. It is open to U.S. citizens and permanent residents of any ethnicity, race, sexual orientation, gender identity, age, ability, veteran status, socio-economic status, first generation to college status, nation of origin, and/or religion.

UW-Madison Future Faculty in Engineering Workshop

UW-Madison College is now accepting applications now through March 20th for WiscProf, the future faculty in engineering workshop at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, May 22-25, 2023.

Targeted specifically for groups traditionally underrepresented in engineering, WiscProf is designed for doctoral students within their last two years of study and postdocs who are interested in (or thinking about) pursuing an academic career at a research-intensive university.

This all-expenses-paid workshop will give you a window into life as a faculty member in engineering. You’ll meet with current faculty members, department chairs and college leadership; get a feel for what it’s like to work at a top-tier university; and begin to develop a plan to pursue your own career in higher education.

 Rising Stars in ME Workshop at Stanford

The annual Rising Stars in Mechanical Engineering workshop will take place on October 6-7, 2022 at Stanford University. This workshop is aimed at individuals who identify as women who are graduate students and postdocs considering future careers in academia. 30 of the top junior academic women in Mechanical Engineering from around the US will be accepted into the program in order to gain career skills, connect with a cohort of peers, and engage with mentors. The Rising Stars in Mechanical Engineering workshop has rotated annually among the Mechanical Engineering Departments at Stanford, Berkeley, and MIT since 2018. 

Candidates must be nominated by a faculty member and travel support is provided. Applications are due on July 31, 2022. Detailed information about the workshop can be found at:

 NextProf Pathfinder applications are now open!

The University of California San Diego and the University of Michigan are pleased to announce the 2022 NextProf Pathfinder Future Faculty Workshop on October 2-4, hosted in La Jolla, California.

This workshop is designed for 1st and 2nd year Ph.D. students and master’s students intending to apply to a Ph.D. program. NextProf Pathfinder prepares participants for a successful career in academia over three days by offering information from current faculty on what it takes to build a competitive graduate school record to obtain a faculty position in the professoriate.

NextProf Pathfinder encourages those in groups underrepresented in the engineering and computer science professoriate to pursue careers in academia. It is open to U.S. citizens and permanent residents of any ethnicity, race, sexual orientation, gender identity, age, ability, veteran status, socio-economic status, first generation to college status, and religion. All travel and housing costs are covered for accepted applicants.
