The J. Mike Walker ’66 Department of Mechanical Engineering at Texas A&M University has several tenured/tenure-track faculty positions and academic professional (non-tenure) positions open.

  1. Tenured/Tenure Track: Open Rank The department will consider individuals with demonstrated expertise and experience in robotics, automation, and mechatronics. Complementary skills in machine design, ROS software, controls, simulation, dynamics, manipulation, mobility, perception and autonomy architectures are desired.
  2. Tenured/Tenure Track: Open Rank The department will consider individuals with demonstrated expertise and experience in emerging topics in mechanical engineering. These topics include but are not limited to: (1) Energy: storage, alternative, electric/energy grid, system-level analysis; (2) Autonomous and Human Machine systems: shared autonomy/automation, augmented reality/virtual reality; (3) Health Care: wearable sensors, modeling of diseases, statistical and data analysis for healthcare systems, medical robotics; (4) Resiliency: Infrastructure resiliency, vibrations and structural diagnostics, reduce reliance on rare Earth metals (critical materials), supply chain resilience; (5) Hypersonics: experimental and computational hypersonics, directed energy, laser-based diagnostics, aerothermodynamics, and multifunctional materials; and (6) Design: computational methods for materials, manufacturing, adaptive structures and systems design.
  3. Academic Professional Track (Non-tenure) Open Rank and Title The department will consider individuals with demonstrated expertise and experience teaching undergraduate students in courses in the mechanical engineering discipline including, but not restricted to SolidWorks, engineering experimentation, measurements, and numerical methods with computer programming and capstone design. Applicants with engineering education pedagogical research expertise will be given priority.
  4. Academic Professional Track (Non-tenure) Open Rank and Title The department will consider individuals with demonstrated expertise and experience in teaching and/or providing writing instructional support to undergraduate and graduate students in writing courses in the mechanical engineering discipline including, but not restricted to the writing component of mechanical measurements and design. Applicants with experience teaching technical writing will be given preference.

Tenure-Track Assistant Professor at the University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD)

The Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering in the Swenson College of Science and Engineering at the University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD) invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor that will begin on August 21, 2023. This is a full time, 9-month position. The successful candidate will have teaching responsibilities in a variety of lecture and laboratory courses in either mechanical engineering (e.g., Dynamics and Controls, Sensors and Data Acquisition, Kinematics and Mechatronics, Thermal-Fluid Sciences, Manufacturing, Material Science, or Machine Design) or industrial engineering (e.g., Human Factors, Systems Safety, Manufacturing Systems Design, Production Planning and Management, Operations Research, Facility Layout, Simulation, Lean Manufacturing, or Supply Chain). They are also expected to establish a collaborative, externally funded, and nationally recognized research program that engages students as well as contribute to graduate and undergraduate teaching, advising, and mentoring.  Service to the Department, College, and/or University is required. Candidates must have a Ph.D. in mechanical engineering, industrial engineering, or a closely related engineering field by July 1, 2023. Preferred candidates will have two or more years of engineering-related industrial experience and/or two or more years of college or university teaching experience as well as a strong interest in teaching laboratory courses and assisting with our Senior Design capstone course in their area of expertise. The Mechanical and Industrial Engineering Department has a history of providing hands-on experiences to our students through both lab courses and student clubs, providing undergraduate research opportunities, and serving local and regional industry through both capstone design projects and graduate placement. The Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering (BSME) and the Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering (BSIE) are accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET (www.abet.org). The Department also offers two graduate degree programs: the Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering and the Master of Environmental Health and Safety. Department faculty have the opportunity to affiliate with other M.S. and Ph.D. programs such as the Water Resources Science and the Advanced Materials Sciences programs. What You Do

Envision, develop and demonstrate industry-leading propulsion control and diagnostic technologies that lead to a quantum leap in sustainable mobility through improved efficiency, reduced harmful emissions and superior vehicle performance. We need your dedication to work on electrified propulsion controls, especially advanced battery management system, which is essential to enhance the safety and performance of our BEVs. In addition:

  • Develop next-generation control and diagnostic algorithms for electrified propulsion systems, including batteries, motors, and drive units, etc.
  • Develop math models and simulation of propulsion systems to facilitate a computer-aided control system design environment that enables an acceleration of the vehicle development process
  • Develop rapid prototyping controllers, including their software, for test cells and advanced technology demonstration vehicles
  • Conduct experiments in dynamometer test cells and at proving ground facilities
  • Manage relationships with divisional staffs and development partners to meet project objectives
  • Lead technical discussions and reviews as a specialist in propulsion controls technology
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry and technical developments affecting areas of responsibility
