Fellowships & Scholarships

The DOE CSGF provides outstanding benefits and opportunities for doctoral students in various fields that use high-performance computing to solve complex problems in science and engineering. Renewable up to four years, the fellowship also seeks candidates researching applied mathematics, statistics, computer science, computer engineering or computational science advances that contribute to more effective use of emerging high-performance systems. The annual DOE CSGF application process typically begins each fall and concludes the following spring when formal acceptance is required of those selected to comprise the newest class of fellows. Applications for the fellowship’s 34th cohort — the 2024-2025 incoming class — are due Wednesday, January 17, 2024.

Eligible candidates have the option to apply for either the DOE CSGF Science & Engineering Track or the DOE CSGF Math/CS Track. Both are composed of 16 individual sections which can be completed in any order and over multiple visits to the secure online portal. A checklist has been incorporated for easy tracking of progress toward completion as well as a mechanism to track the status of the applicant’s reference letter submissions, transcripts, etc.

This honor was created to encourage, support, and reward young investigators across disciplines who demonstrate expertise with the potential for lasting impact on vaccine and immunotherapy discovery. This international prize is an investment in the future—you and your research. The prize is USD $30K, and two finalists receive USD $10K each. To enter, submit an application describing your research and why you think it’s a game changer in the field of immunology. The deadline to apply is 1 October 2023. The prize is open to researchers from across disciplines, including computer science, artificial intelligence/machine learning, protein engineering, nanotechnology, genomics, parasitology and tropical medicine, neurodegenerative diseases, and gene editing.

The SMART Scholarship-for-Service Program is a combined educational and workforce development opportunity for STEM students. SMART offers scholarships for undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral students pursuing a STEM degree. Scholarship recipients receive full tuition, annual stipends, internships, and guaranteed employment with the Department of Defense after graduation. The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine’s Fellowships Office has conducted the NRC Research Associateship Programs in cooperation with sponsoring federal laboratories and other research organizations since 1954. NRC Research Associateships are awarded to exceptionally talented postdoctoral and senior scientists and engineers through a rigorous selection process. These selected individuals are granted tenure as guest researchers at participating laboratories, highlighting their outstanding contributions and potential in their respective fields.

Behind every life-changing solution is an entrepreneurial scientist–a creative mind who developed an idea in the lab and dared to carry it out in the world. To encourage more scientists to translate their research, BioInnovation Institute (BII) & Science host an annual award.

Up to three winners will have their essays published in Science magazine and will be invited into BII’s entrepreneurial ecosystem. In addition, the Grand Prize winner will receive a prize of USD 25,000 and each finalist will receive USD 10,000 at a grand award celebration in Copenhagen, Denmark.

The Hertz Fellowship provides financial and lifelong professional support for the nation’s most promising graduate students in science and technology.

The fellowship includes up to five years of funding, valued at up to $250,000, and the freedom to pursue innovative projects wherever they may lead. In addition, fellows take part in ongoing mentoring, symposia, and workshops with our vibrant community of more than 1200 fellows, a set of peers who span disciplines, generations, and geography.

The Admiral Grace Hopper Fellowship was established in 2015 with the goal of developing young computational scientists to make outstanding contributions in the area of HPC applications.

Upcoming or recent Ph.D. graduates in computational science disciplines, computer science or applied mathematics who have received their degree within the last three years are encouraged to apply. The successful applicant will work in a stimulating environment, can present results at major conference venues and establish strong connections to academic and industry partners.
